What Does It Really Mean When OWCP Accepts Your Claim?
When OWCP accepts your claim, it recognizes the covered work-related condition. That is an important step because it can provide access to medical treatment and make other compensation benefits possible, but it does not automatically approve every future request.
What Medical Benefits Can Acceptance Provide?
Authorized treatment for the accepted condition may include physician care, therapy, diagnostic testing, injections, or surgery when medically supported and properly approved. Federal providers can generally bill through the OWCP system for covered care.
The accepted condition matters. Treatment for a different or newly developed condition may require additional medical evidence or a request to expand the claim.
Does Acceptance Include Wage-Loss Compensation?
Wage-loss benefits may be available for work absences connected to the accepted injury, including a supported period before the formal acceptance. A CA-7 and medical evidence are commonly needed to establish the time claimed and why the employee could not work.
Acceptance creates eligibility to request compensation; it does not guarantee payment for every period claimed.
What About Future Care or a Schedule Award?
